6 health workers transferred for negligence
Six health workers of Chittagong’s Sitakunda have been transferred to a remote char of Sandwip as punitive measure in wake of the death of nine children from measles in the upazila.
The health workers have been transferred to Urkirchar of Sandwip upazila of Chittagong, Chittagong district Civil Surgeon Azizur Rahman Siddique told The Daily Star.

They have been transferred over negligence in discharging their duties in line with the order of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), he said today.
According to health officials, the children were never vaccinated. The people of the area did not receive any health service whatsoever from the government.

Nine children died, showing similar symptoms, including fever, body rash, breathing problems, vomiting and blood in stool. The situation grew alarming after more children fell sick.
Medical examinations confirmed measles as the cause of death of nine children.
