Missing man’s body found in Shitalakkha river
Police recovered the body of a man from Shitalakkha river in Gazipur today, four days after he reportedly went missing.
Locals claimed that Riyad Sikdar, 25, a resident of Mulgao village in Kaliganj upazila went missing after being chased by the law enforcers, who however denied the allegation, reports our Gazipur correspondent.
Riyad had been collecting soil from Mulgaon village and selling those to buyers from Palash area of Narsingdi for the last one week before he went missing, the victim’s brother Rifat Shikder said.
On Sunday morning, Riyad along with his relatives Dulal, Rupom and Aiyub went to Mulgaon village to see the soil lifting, he said.
At one stage, police rushed to the spot and chased the soil lifters, the brother said adding that Riyad remained missing since then.
His mother-in-law, Parvin Akter, filled a general diary with the Kaliganj Police Station regarding his disappearance on the same day.
Informed by locals, police recovered the body of Riyad around 7:00am today and sent it to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said Abu Baqar Mia, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station.
Rajib Chakraborti, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kaliganj Police Station, told the correspondent that blood was coming out from Riyad’s nose and mouth but no other injury was found on his body, said.
The day Riyad went missing, police filed a case in connection with the soil lifting from the river bank accusing 12 people including the victim. Police shown arrested five people in the case.
