Moon sighted, Ashura Oct 1
Holy Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM), will be observed in the country on October 1 as the Muharram moon was sighted in Bangladesh sky this evening.
The National Moon Sighting Committee took the decision at a meeting after reviewing reports received from different parts of the country.
Secretary to the Religious Affairs Ministry Md Anisur Rahman presided over the meeting held at the conference room of Islamic Foundation’s Baitul Mukarram office in the evening, according to a press release of the foundation.
Joint Secretary to the Ministry of Religious Affairs Md Hafizur Rahman and Joint Secretary to the Ministry of Information Md Mizan-Ul-Alam were, among others, present at the meeting.
On the 10th of Muharram in the Hijri year of 61, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) along with his family members and 72 followers embraced martyrdom in the hands of soldiers of Yazid at the desert of Karbala to uphold the teachings of the Prophet (SM).
The day is a public holiday.
