This weekend for Dhaka people has been drenched in the late October rains, triggered by a land depression, which is showing no signs of letting off.

The rain that started on Thursday will continue to fall throughout the day today and will likely ease from tomorrow, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra hoisted cautionary signal no three due to the land depression, according to the met office.

Around 149mm of rain was recorded in the capital, Dhaka, in 24 hours till 9:00am this morning, according to a Met office report published on their website.

Meanwhile, Gopalganj witnessed the highest rainfall-- 271mm—during the period.

Most major streets in the capital were inundated in the rains, increasing sufferings of the city people.

Thoroughfares such as Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Asad Gate, many parts of Mirpur Road are ankle-deep in water.

The land depression over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Odisha and south-western part of Bangladesh moved north-northeastwards and was centered at 09:00am over West Bengal and Western parts of Bangladesh, according to a Met office weather forecast report published this morning.

It is likely to move in a north/northeasterly direction further and weaken gradually. Under its influence steep pressure gradient persists and deep convection is continuing over North Bay.
