Gross investment in power & energy

The government seems to be really pushing for the development of power and energy sector with a gross increase of allocation in this sector for the next fiscal.

Tk 21,118 crore has been slated for the power and energy sector, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said in his budget speech this afternoon.

Effectively, this is a 45 percent increase in allocation for this sector as compared to last year – in line with the Hasina government’s motto to light a bulb in every house.

“Sustainable development of power generation, transmission and distribution system is one of the priority areas of this government,” Muhith said in his budget speech.

“Eighty percent population of the country has been brought under the electricity coverage. I firmly believe that the rest 20 percent will be brought under electricity coverage ahead of 2021,” he added.
