100 illegal structures demolished on Dhaka-Aricha highway
Roads and Highways Department (RHD) has demolished over 100 illegal structures on both sides of Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar in two hours since the eviction drive started this morning.
A team of RHD started the drive in Pakija area on the highway near Savar Bus stand around 10:30am and evicted over 100 structures, including illegal shops, godowns and factories till this noon, according to Executive Magistrate Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Faruki, who is leading the drive.
The drive is being conducted from Aminbazar to Nabinagar areas ahead of the Victory Day on December 16, our Savar correspondent reports quoting Faruki, also estate and law officer of RHD, Dhaka.
The drive will continue till tomorrow,” the magistrate said.
He said they earlier evicted over 1000 illegal structures including extended portion of a high-rise building from both sides of the highway during their first phase of the drive on November 24 and 25.
There are at least 5,000 illegal structures from Aminbazar to Nabinagar areas, he said, adding that they will extend their drive to evict all the illegal structure, if necessary.
