12 rescued while being trafficked to Malaysia
Twelve fortune seekers were rescued from a remote area in Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong early today while being trafficked to Malaysia.
On information, police conducted a drive at Khudukkhali around 1:30am and rescued the fortune seekers from the houses of two local residents -- Syedul Alam and Sajjad Hossain, said Swapan Kumar Majumder, officer-in-charge of Banshkhali Police Station.
However, police could not arrest any trafficker during the drive, the OC said.
Three of the fortune seekers were from Cox's Bazar while the others from Sylhet and Narsingdi districts, the police official added.
Each fortune seeker paid Tk one lakh to Tk 1.6 lakh to the middlemen to go to Malaysia, the OC said quoting the victims.
