12-yr old girl 'raped' in Savar

A 12-year-old girl has been raped allegedly by a youth in Shampur area of Savar, on the outskirts of capital Dhaka.

Police arrested Saddam Hossen, 26, son of Kutub Uddin of the same area, for his alleged involvement in the incident, AFM Sayeed, officer-in-charge of Savar Police Station, told The Daily Star today.

Quoting victim’s family members, OC Sayeed said Saddam forcefully took the girl to an under-construction building in the area to rape her there yesterday evening.

Hearing her screams, locals rushed in and caught Saddam red-handed and gave him thrashing.

Locals later handed him over to police, our Savar correspondent reports quoting the OC.

The victim’s father filed a case this morning with Savar Police Station accusing Saddam, the police official said.

The victim has been sent to One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for medical test, the OC added.
