1,200 families deprived of cheap rated rice

At least 1,200 families in Phulbari upazila of the district have been deprived of getting rice at Tk 10 per kg, thanks to the callousness of Shibnagar union parishad (UP) chairman.

Upazila Food Control Officer Modhusudan Dutta said seven UP chairmen were asked to submit lists of beneficiaries by August 8.

Of them, Shibnagar UP Chairman Mamunur Rashid placed lists of the ultra-poor families without recquired papers and photographs of beneficiaries on August 28, he said.

However, Mamunur said he submitted list of beneficiaries with required papers and photographs on August 28.

Modhusudan Dutta said the list was placed on August 28, 20 days after the deadline.

Besides, the list was full of mistakes and many necessary papers, copy of National Identity cards and photographs were missing, he said.
