13 hurt in CU BCL clash
At least 13 people including four policemen were injured as two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Chittagong University unit clashed on the campus today, hours before the admission test began.
Among the injured students, Masum Khan, a BCL activist and 3rd-year student of History department of the university, was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Rest of the injured students and three law enforcers took treatment at CU medical centre, Our Chittagong University correspondent reports quoting Md Salahuddin, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Hathazari Police Station.
The injured law enforcers are: Md Ismail, OC of the police station, his body guard constable Enamul Huq and another constable Nurul Alam, the police official said.
Enamul suffered bullet wounds during the clash that started around 11:00am, OC Salauddin said.
On information, police rushed to the spot and fired around 150 tear-gas canisters to disperse the clashing groups.
Admission tests at the university started yesterday, which will continue up to November 9.
Centring yesterday's scuffle over greeting admission seekers at the main gate on the campus, supporters of the BCL president and its secretary from Shahjalal and Shah Amanat halls -- locked into the clash, the correspondent reports.
Law enforcers took the admission seekers safely to examination rooms where they sat for admission test at 2:30pm in the afternoon.
Many admission seekers were seen leaving the campus without taking the test in fear of insecurity, the correspondent said.
