Finance Minister AMA Muhith today told parliament that the total number of loan defaulters was around 1.78 lakh as of June according to Bangladesh Credit Information Bureau.

Replying to lawmakers' queries, the minister said different measures have been taken to realise the defaulted loans and dispose of the cases regarding the loan default.

Muhith however did not give any detail on it.

On the "national wage commission", Muhith said it is likely to be tabled in the cabinet meeting this month in light of the Secretary Committee's recommendation.

Responding to another query, Muhith said Islami Bank Bangladesh earned the highest profit of Tk 1,621.21 crore in 2014 while Basic Bank incurred the highest loss of Tk 110.79 crore.
