2 ‘drug peddlers’ killed in Dinajpur ‘gunfight’

Two suspected drug peddlers were killed in a reported gunfight with police in Dinajpur Sadar upazila early today.

The deceased are Rahmat Ali, 35, of Dakhkin Balubari, and Abul Kashem alias Kaisha, 34, of Sipahipara of Dinajpur town.

They were accused in several drug-related cases filed with Dinajpur Sadar Police Station, our Dinajpur correspondent reports quoting ATM Golam Rasul, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) of Dinajpur police.

Tipped off, a police team went to Tajpur to conduct an anti-drug drive in the area. But sensing their presence, a group of “drug peddlers” opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to retaliated triggering the “gunfight”, said OC Golam Rasul.

At one stage, Rahmat and Kashem came in the line of fire and died on the spot while others managed to flee the scene, he said.

Two police members were injured in the alleged gunfight, the police official claimed, adding that the injured were admitted to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital, Dinajpur.
