2 killed in Mymensingh over land, 2 arrested

At least two people were killed with several others injured and two arrested in a dispute over owning a piece of land in Pagla upazila of Mymensingh today.

The dead were identified as Abdus Samad Khan, 55, and his cousin Abul Kalam Azad Khan, 54, from Pagla and Gafargaon upazilas respectively.

Those arrested while fleeing were Liakat Mir, a retired police constable and his son Sajal Mir, reports our Mymensingh correspondent quoting local police.

Samad Khan and his neighbour Liakat Mir locked in a quarrel over a piece of land around 11:00am, said Badrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Pagla Police Station.

There had been a long standing dispute between the two over ownership of the land. The group of Samad Khan repeatedly pursued local arbitrations to get hold of the land, OC added.

At one stage, Liakat Mir along with his associates equipped with sharp weapons swooped on Samad Khan leaving him dead on the spot. His cousin Azad, who sustained serious injuries in the clash declared dead at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, the OC said.

On information, rushed to the spot and detained Liakat Mir, and his son Sajal Mir, when they were running away from village after the killing incident.

Police recovered the bodies and sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy. A case was filed over the incident.
