2 ‘robbers’ beaten dead in B’baria
Two robbers were killed in a mass beating by villagers during a robbery in Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria early today.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
A group of robbers entered the house of expat Habibur Rahman of Durgapur village and tried to loot valuables around 2:00am and injured three people by stabbing, Md Masud Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ashuganj Police Station, told our Brahmanbaria correspondent.
The injured are: Sanaullah Miah, 40, and Rahul Mia, 24, son and grandson of Habibur Rahman, and Preety Akter, 25, Rahman's daughter-in-law.
Sanaullah and Rahul were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition, the OC said.
Upon hearing the screams of the residents of the house, neighbours gathered around. Later, at one stage, the locals caught and beat up two of the robbers while the gang tried to flee the scene.
On information, police rushed to the spot and found the two robbers in a seriously injured state, the OC said.
They were taken to Brahmanbaria General Hospital where they succumbed to their wounds in the morning, the police official said.
The bodies are kept in the morgue of Brahmanbaria General Hospital, he added.
