22 Shibir men held in Ctg

Police today detained at least 22 leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student front of Jamaat-e-Islami, in Patiya upazila of Chittagong this afternoon.

Acting on a tip-off, police carried out a drive at a Shibir-run coaching centre around 5:00pm and picked up them, said Refayet Ullah Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Patiya Police Station.

The detainees were holding a "secret meeting" to carry out subversive activities, the police officer told our Chittagong correspondent.

A good number of jihadi books, posters, banners and leaflets with anti-government slogans were seized from their possession, the OC added.
