3 'cow lifters' killed in Jashore mob beating

Three suspected cow lifters were beaten to death by an angry mob in Jashore’s Abhaynagar upazila early today.

The deceased are all aged between 35 to 45, but their identities could not be known yet, our Benapole correspondent reports quoting Md Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station.

The incident took place around 4:00am when a group of thieves was allegedly trying to escape with three cows from a barn at Gaidgachhi village in Sadar upazila, said the OC.

Realising what was happening, owner Khorshed Ali cried for help following which an announcement was made from the local mosque about the incident.

A mob gathered and chased the alleged cow-lifters for almost one and half kilometres till Prembaag village of Avaynagar and managed to catch three of them.

They gave a good beating to the trio, leaving two dead on the spot while another succumbed while being taken to Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex, the police official added.

The other cattle lifters however managed to flee leaving the cows there, he also said.
