3yr old raped in Bagerhat, mother files case

A case has been filed in connection with the rape of a child of two years and nine months in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat.

The mother of the victim filed the case against one Fahad Khandaker, 18, with the Mollahat Police Station yesterday, our Bagerhat correspondent reports quoting Kazi Golam Kabir, officer-in-charge of the police station.

The plaintiff said as she and Fahad’s mother Lovely Begum were known to each other, she along with her daughter went to Fahad’s house on invitation of Lovely on October 22. Fahad allegedly raped the child after luring her with chocolates, the plaintiff said.

The plaintiff did not file the case immediately after the incident as Fahad’s mother advised her not to lodge any case saying that it would ruin chances of marriage of her daughter. The child was treated at Mollahat Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital.

But seeing the sufferings of her child, she later decided to file the case yesterday.

Mohammad Ataullah, a doctor of the Bagerhat Sadar Hospital, said the child is now in better condition and was brought to the hospital from the Upazila Health Complex on Saturday.

Police are still on the lookout for Fahad Khandaker who has been on the run since the incident.
