The four children whose bodies had been found buried under sand in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj yesterday were strangulated to death, said a doctor today.

The doctors found evidence of strangulation which caused their death, said Debashish Das, a medical officer of Habiganj Sadar Hospital who conducted the autopsy on the four bodies last afternoon.

Four days into missing, the bodies of Monir Miah, 7, Zakaria Shuvo, 8, Mohammad Tajel Mia, 10, and Ismail Miah, 10, were found from a Balu Mahal (a place from where sand is extract) at Sundrateki village.

All the four bodies bore injury marks, the medical officer told our Moulvibazar correspondent in the morning.

They will submit the report to the superintendent of police in Habiganj later in the day, he added.

Meanwhile, a senior judicial magistrate of the district granted a 10-day remand for Abdul Ali and Jewel Ahmed, who were detained at the village last night for their alleged involvement in the murders.

Two more suspects -- Habibur Rahman and Rubel Ahmed -- were also detained from the village in the afternoon, said Muktadir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Habiganj Detective Branch of police.

Among the deceased, Monir, Shuvo and Tajel were cousins and students of class I, II and IV at Sundrateki Government Primary School. Ismail was studying at a local madrasa, police said.

Police and victims' relatives suspect that the murders could be a result of rivalry between two groups of local panchayat (village arbitration).
