5 more JU students hospitalised following hunger strike
At least five more students of Geological Science department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) students, who have been observing the fast-unto-death protesting the authority decision to shift the environmental science department into their building, were hospitalised today.
They are now undergoing treatment at the Enam Medical College Hospital.
Eight students of the computer science and Geological Science department were hospitalised yesterday on the same ground.
Around 17 students including two teachers of Computer Science and Engineering and Geological sciences were observing the fast-unto-death at JU to meet their demand.
Meanwhile, 26 teachers have submitted their resignations protesting the authority's decision on Sunday.
Among them, 10 teachers of the Geological Science department today formally submitted their resignation letters to the registrar's office around 2:00pm, reports our correspondent.
Nine more teachers of the same department who are on academic leave also expressed their solidarity as a sign of protest.
The university last Thursday decided to move the Environmental Science department into the building which houses the other two departments.
The students of Environmental Science department have been staging demonstration throughout the April demanding the transfer.
The university authority today held a meeting but it failed to reach any decision.
Another meeting is scheduled for Monday to resolve the prevailing crisis.
