9 more Bangladeshis evacuated from Yemen
Nine more Bangladeshi expatriates, who had been stranded in Al Hudaydah and Sana'a cities of strife-torn Yemen, reached African country Djibouti today.
Now, a total 32 Bangladeshis are staying in Djibouti, SM Mahbubul Alam, counsellor at the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuwait, told The Daily Star this evening.
Of them 23 are men, four women and five children, he added. Mahbub, is now in Djibouti and maintaining communications with Bangladesh nationals in two cities -- Aden and Sana'a.
"We have a plan to send all these people back in Dhaka by today or tomorrow by a flight of any airline," he mentioned.
The counsellor also added that three Bangladeshis, who earlier reached Djibouti, had left the African country to return Dhaka three days ago. "They had flown by a flight of Air India and might have reached Dhaka by Mumbai."
Replying a query about the evacuation of the other Bangladeshis from Yemen, Mahbub, said they were trying to bring the rest of the expatriates to that country by air and ship.
Another official said around 500 Bangladeshis have been remaining stranded in Sana and Aden of the war-torn country for being evacuated.
In the meantime, Maj Gen Mohammad Ashaduddin, Bangladeshi ambassador in Kuwait, went to Djibouti on Tuesday to lead the evacuation procedure of the stranded expatriates from Yemen.
Foreign ministry officials said around 1500 to 3000 Bangladeshis might be staying in Yemen.
