Acid smuggling attempt at Jamuna Fertiliser Factory, man held
One person was detained for attempting to smuggle out three tonnes of sulphuric acid from Jamuna Fertiliser Factory (JFF) in Jamalpur today.
The driver of a tank lorry, yet to be identified, was detained along with the vehicle during the smuggling attempt, reports Bangla daily the Prothom Alo.
Later, the security guards handed him over to Sarishabari Police Station.
Prothom Alo quoted Sub-Inspector Idris Hossain of the station as saying: "He [driver] has not been interrogated yet."
Jamuna Fertiliser General Manager (admin) Nazrul Islam said the tanker was loaded with 24 tonnes sulphuric acid that was brought for the factory.
Unloading 21 tonnes the tanker was being taken out of the factory with the rest three tons when the security personnel caught its driver red-handed and seized the vehicle, he told the newspaper.
Shariful Haque, additional superintendent of police (ASP) visited the spot. He said, "Action will be taken against those involved in this incident."
