Advertise asking 6 Jamalpur ‘Al-Badr' men to surrender: ICT

A tribunal today ordered authorities concerned to advertise in newspapers asking six Jamalpur war crimes accused to surrender before it.

The accused are Ashraf Hossain, 64, Prof Sharif Ahammed, 71, Abdul Mannan, 66, Abdul Bari, 62, Harun, 58, Abul Hashem, 65.

International Crimes Tribunal-2 led by Justice Obaidul Hassan asked registrar office to publish the notice in Bangla and English dailies.

The accused will have to appear before the tribunal in seven days after the advertisement is published, according to the order.

The tribunal passed the order as police failed to arrest the six alleged "Al-Badr men" and submitted a report showing the accused absconding last month.

On April 20, the prosecution pressed five charges against the six and other two Jamalpur "Al-Badr men" for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War in 1971.

The other two suspects are: Shamsul Haque, 75, and AKM Yusuf Ali, 83. They are now in jail.

The charges include murder, abduction and torture. The charges were brought for the eights' alleged involvement in nine criminal incidents.

According to the prosecution, the crimes were committed in between April 22 and December 11, 1971 in Jamalpur.
