Agitation for national celebration of Nazrul’s birthday
Aggrieved locals today blocked the busy Dhaka-Mymensingh road for nearly an hour demanding national celebration of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's birth anniversary.
Hundreds took to the streets under banner Amra Trishal Bashi in Trishal upazila, Mymensingh this morning. They burned tires on roads to press home their demand.
They were furious that the government has decided to observe the birth anniversary of this rebel poet in Comilla this year, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.
It caused a big tailback on both lanes of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, Moniruzzaman, officer in-charge (OC) of Trishal Police Station said.
Nazrul, born at village Churulia of Burdwan district in West Bengal on May 25, 1899 stayed for about a year in his boyhood at village Darirampur in Trishal and studied at Darirampur High School.
