The Supreme Court today upheld the High Court order that had granted bail to BNP leader Amanullah Aman in 27 vandalism and arson cases.

With upholding the order, the apex court cleared the way for Aman to be freed from jail.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain today upheld the order, passing "no order" in 27 separate petitions filed by the government challenging the HC's bail order in the cases.

Aman's lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon told The Daily Star that there is no legal bar to his client to get released from jail following the SC order.

The BNP leader is now receiving treatment at prison cell of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. He is accused of 69 arson and vandalism cases filed last and current years during BNP-led 20-party alliance's anti-government agitation.

He got bail in the all cases from the lower court and the High Court, he said.

Meanwhile, the SC judge also upheld the bail of BNP leader MK Anwar in 2 arson cases today.

Leon, also a counsel for Anwar who is now at the prison cell of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, said his client cannot be freed from jail as he was arrested in two other cases.
