Attempt to murder case filed against RU Prof

An attempt-to-murder case has been filed against a teacher of Rajshahi University for allegedly assaulting one of his colleagues on Wednesday.

Professor Asgar Ali of Department of Crop Science and Technology of RU filed the case with Motihar Police Station against Professor Khairul Islam of the same department last night, reports our RU correspondent quoting SM Masud Parvez, officer-in-charge of the station.

The alleged incident took place around 1pm at Agricultural Faculty building of the university on Wednesday, Prof Ali said.

"I was standing beside the dean's office when Prof Khairul Islam came and hit me without saying anything. Later I fell on the floor and fainted," Asgar Ali said yesterday.

An office assistant of the department had said that he heard a sound in the noon. "I found Asgar Ali lying on the floor when I went to inquire its source," the assistant added.

The teacher was later taken to the university medical centre for primary treatment.

However, the accused Prof Khairul Islam denied the allegation, claiming that he did not even touch Prof Ali Asgar.

Prof Ali Asgar and Prof Khairul Islam had filed two general diaries against each other with Motihar Police Station in November, last year.
