AG’s office to oppose Ex-Sonagazi OC’s bail plea
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam today said his office will vehemently oppose the bail petition of former officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonagazi Police Station Moazzem Hossain in the case filed over recording a statement of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
“A police officer (OC Moazzem) has reportedly recorded a statement of Nusrat Jahan Rafi which is a very heinous offence. Lawyers of my office are prepared to seriously oppose his bail petition,” he said while talking to reporters at his office on Supreme Court premises.
The attorney general said the police have pressed charges against 16 persons for the brutal killing of Nusrat Jahan Rafi and her family demanded to implicate Moazzem in the killing case.
“Implicating him (Moazzem) is the issue of the investigation officer. We will place strong objection before the court so that he does not get bail,” he said.
The HC bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim may hold hearing on the bail petition of Moazzem on June 11 or June 12 or June 13, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam added.
Yesterday, Moazzem filed a petition with the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the case filed on charges of recording a statement of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi on camera and circulating the clip on social media.
On April 15, Supreme Court lawyer, Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman, filed the case with Dhaka Cyber Tribunal against Moazzem under the Digital Security Act for recording the statement of Nusrat, a victim of sexual harassment, on camera without her consent and circulating the clip on social media.
On May 27, the tribunal issued an arrest warrant for Moazzem on charges of recording a statement of Nusrat Jahan Rafi on camera and circulating the clip on social media.
