BGB arrests two with 30 gold bars in Benapole
Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two suspected smugglers in possession of 30 gold bars in Jashore’s Benapole this afternoon.
The arrestees are Iqbal Hossain (32) and Omar Faruk Rony (34).
Acting on a tip-off, a BGB team caught them while they were trying to intrude into India through Benapole’s Boroachra, Lt Col Salim Reza, commanding officer of BGB Battalion 49, told The Daily Star.
The estimated value of the gold weighing around three kilogrammes was Tk 2.17 crore, he said.
The smugglers had been handed over to police and a case has been filed in this connection at Benapole Port Police Station, he added.
