BJP, Congress concerned over ‘attacks on Bangladesh’s minority groups’

West Bengal units of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress party have voiced concern over a series of "attacks on Hindus and other minority communities" in Bangladesh and asked the Bangladesh government to put a stop to it.

Congress President of West Bengal unit Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said on Saturday that he has written a letter to Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to use her cordial relationship with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to address this issue, reports our correspondents from New Delhi and Kolkata.

"We are concerned about the present situation in Bangladesh. I have written a letter to External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj in this regard," Chowdhury told reporters in Kolkata on Saturday adding that he has full faith in Bangladesh government.

"Communal forces in Bangladesh have been systematically targeting the minorities including Hindu, Christian and Buddhists and secular and liberal minded citizens. We came to know that the Hindu priest at Ramkrishna Mission in Dhaka received a death threat," he added.
