Boy allegedly shot by Gaibandha MP
A 10-year-old boy was injured as a local MP allegedly shot him at Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha early today, the victim's family claimed.
The injured boy is Sourav Mian, son of Saju Mian of Gopalcharan area. He is a fourth grade student of Gopalcharan Government Primary School of the upazila, our Rangpur correspondent adds.
Sourav was taken to Sundarganj Upazila Health Complex first and later shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Sourav is out of danger now, Dr Babul Kumar Saha of the hospital said.
Shuvo Kumar Das, duty officer of Rangpur Medical College Hospital confirmed that the victim suffered bullets injuries, our Gaibandha correspondent adds.
The victim's father Saju Mian said Sourav went out of his house for a morning walk around 6:00am.
"Manzurul Islam Liton, AL lawmaker from Gaibandha-1 constituency shot three times at Sourav from his car. Liton was returning to his home at Bamandanga area of the same upazila," alleged Saju Mian.
Sourav was hit twice in his right leg and one bullet hit his left leg, his father said.
Talking to The Daily Star, the MP, Manzurul Islam Liton, termed the allegation "untrue". "It is a blatantly false allegation." he added.
Md Jinnat Ali, officer-in-charge of Sundarganj Police Station, however said, "I do not know whether the boy was shot by the MP. It is a matter of investigation."
Meanwhile, Abdus Samad, deputy commissioner of Gaibandha said he heard about the incident but refused to make any comment.
