BSF kills 1 in Chapainawabganj
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) gunned down a Bangladeshi cattle trader in Charpanka frontier area of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj early today.
The deceased was Torikul Islam, 35, son of late Yousuf Ali of Jamaipara village in the upazila, reports our Chapainawabganj correspondent.
A BSF patrol team of Chandichawk camp under 20 Malda BSF Battalion, opposite to Wahedpur Border Observation Post (BOP) of BGB battalion-9, opened fire when some Bangladeshi cattle traders were going to India crossing the border around 1:00am, said Lt Col Abu Zafor Sheikh Mohammad Bazlul Haque, commanding officer of the battalion.
The other cattle traders rescued bullet-hit Torikul and took him to his village home where he succumbed to his injuries around 2:30am, Lt Col Abu Zafor said.
BGB strongly protested the killing and sent a protest note to the BSF asking for a company commander-level flag meeting.
Informed by BGB, police rushed to Torikul's house and sent the body to Chapainawabganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
