Bus-truck collision kills 10 in Sirajganj

Ten people were killed and 30 injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck at the west end of Bangabandhu Multipurpose Bridge in Sirajganj this afternoon.

The identities of the dead could not be known immediately, and the death toll may rise further as most of the victims were in critical condition, reports our Pabna correspondent quoting police.

The accident took place around 3:30pm when a Bogra-bound iron sheets-laden truck collided with a Dhaka-bound bus of Antor Paribahan at Shimanto Bazar of Konabari point, said Md Helal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge West Zone Police Station.

The OC added that the truck lost control as its front wheel got punctured, leading to the head-on collision that left two people spot dead.

Besides, a Dhaka-bound Nabil Paribahan bus also hit the former bus from behind as its driver could not brake quickly enough when the accident took place just in front of it, the OC said.

Eight people succumbed to their injuries following the accident, he added.

Rest of the injured were admitted to different local hospitals, including Sirajganj General Hospital.
