Nusrat murder: Ex-OC Moazzem denied meeting counsels
Former OC of Sonagazi Police Station Moazzem Hossain was not allowed to meet his lawyers today.
Moazzem, the accused of a case file for filming a statement of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi and circulating the clip on social media, appealed to Dhaka Cyber Tribunal to meet his counsels, but Ash Sams Joglul Hossain, the judge of the court, dismissed the petition.
However, the tribunal granted the defence’s another petition for supplying a copy of a pen-drive in which Nusrat Jahan Rafi's statement was recorded by Moazzem.
The tribunal also fixed July 10 for hearing on charge framing against Moazzem after his lawyer submitted a petition seeking adjournment of the hearing.
Earlier in the day Moazzem's lawyer submitted two separate petitions-- one seeking a copy of a pen drive in which Nusrat Jahan Rafi's statement was recorded and the other for meeting with the former OC in presence of police at the court prison.
The court allowed the petition for getting a copy of the pen drive, but rejected the petition for meeting.
On April 15, the case was filed by Supreme Court lawyer Syed Sayedul Haque allegedly for recording the statement of Nusrat, a victim of sexual harassment, on camera without her consent and circulating the clip on social media.
According to the probe report, the former OC himself had recorded the video on camera and later passed the footage to someone else.
The footage showed that Moazzem was asking Nusrat “insulting” questions.
Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa in Feni’s Sonagazi upazila, was set ablaze on April 6 allegedly for refusing to withdraw a case filed against the madrasa Principal Siraj Ud Doula for sexually harassing her on March 27.
She died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10.
On the same day, the OC was withdrawn as Nusrat’s family alleged that he was not cooperating with them.
The police official was suspended on May 8 over negligence of duty and attached to the office of DIG (Rangpur range).
