College girl attacked in Pirojpur

A college girl was injured in an attack by a youth in Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur yesterday afternoon, police said.

The 17-year-old girl, a class XII student of a local college, came under the attack when she was returning home from her tuition, Syed Abdullah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mathbaria Police Station, told our Pirojpur correspondent.

Victim’s father claimed that the attacker used to stalk his daughter and proposed her several times.  

Shahidul Islam Dulal, 28, son of Samsul Haque from Amragachia union in the upazila, waylaid Shorna and attacked her with a sharp blade around 4:15pm yesterday, the OC said.

Locals rescued Shorna and took her to Mathbaria Upazila Health Complex with injuries in her left hand, he said.

Dulal also injured himself with the same blade and received treatment from the health complex, said the OC adding that later, he went into hiding.

A case was filed in connection with the assault and police were trying to arrest the culprit, he added.
