Comment on CJ: SCBA demands action against 2 ministers
Supreme Court Bar Association today urged the apex court to take legal action immediately against two ministers for their comments about the chief justice.
The ministers' comments about the CJ and a sub-judice matter is like a threat to the judiciary, SCBA president Khandker Mahbub Hossain said at a press conference at the association auditorium.
He expressed hope that the SC would take legal action in order to uphold the image of the judiciary.
Replying to a query, Hossain said the Appellate Division can initiate contempt of court proceedings against the two ministers – Food Minister Qamrul Islam and Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque – for their comments.
Addressing a discussion in the capital yesterday, the food minister said that the appeal in Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali's case should be reheard by a reconstituted Appellate Division bench of the Supreme Court, keeping the chief justice out of it.
Qamrul, who was state minister for law when the tribunal was formed in 2010, told the discussion that the chief justice in an open court made some observations that raised questions about the prosecutors and investigators' role in the trial.
On the other hand, the liberation war affairs minister also made some observations during yesterday's programme.
