Criminal killed in gunfight with rivals: police

A criminal was killed in a gunfight with members of a rival group in Bogura town early today, police said.

The deceased, Kabir Hossain Minko, 38, was a resident of Chak Farid Colony in the town's Maltinagar Bhatkandi Bridge area, reports our Bogura correspondent, quoting Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Detective Branch of police Aslam Ali.

Hearing gunshots, multiple police teams led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Bogura Sadar Circle) Sanatan Chakraborty, Sadar Police Station's OC SM Badiuzzaman and Aslam rushed to Maltinagar Bhatkandi Bridge area 1:30am and found the bullet-hit man at the spot, police said.

The injured man was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Locals present at the hospital identified the deceased as Kabir, who was accused in more than 15 cases, including murder, extortion, and possession of arms, said ASP Sanatan.

Police recovered two firearms, eight bullets and two sharp weapons from the spot.

Speaking to correspondents, Kabir's brother-in-law Zahirul Islam said he left home yesterday afternoon after receiving a phone call from his friend Tofazzal Hossain, a businessman.

And since then, his mobile was found switched off, Zahirul said.

The family lodged a general diary with the local police station yesterday night as they had not heard back from him.
