Curb on Pahela Baishakh celebration a medieval thinking: Sultana Kamal
Demanding withdrawal of restrictions on Pahela Baishakh celebration programme, rights activist Sultana Kamal today said the decision is reflection of "medieval thinking".
"It is an attempt to demean the constitution. So, the decision will have to be canceled soon," said Sultana Kamal, convener of Nari Nirapatta Jote, an alliance for women's security.
She was briefing the media at Jatiya Press Club on the alliance's preparations for celebration of Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla New Year, reports Bangla daily Prothom-Alo.
It is the government's constitutional commitment to ensure people's security for 24 hours. But surprisingly the government has announced that no outdoor programme will be allowed after 5:00pm on Pahela Baishakh, she said.
