Daily Sun journo beaten up in Patuakhali

English newspaper Daily Sun's Patuakhali correspondent was beaten up by a group of people while he was capturing footage of a clash over the grabbing of a fish enclosure in the district's Galachipa upazila yesterday.

After being treated at Galachipa Upazila Health Complex, victim Abdul Quium, fearing further attacks, took shelter at a relative's house in the upazila, our Patuakhali correspondent reports, quoting the journalist.

The attackers also snatched a camera and a mobile phone from the possession of the journalist, Quium said.

Two persons -- Abdur Rahim and Palash Hawladar – were also assaulted as they were trying to stop the mob. Family members of the duo have also received death threats because they informed the matter to the police, the journalist said.  

According to the journalist, a group of people have leased a waterbody in the upazila's Amkhola Union and have been farming fish there.

But some locals, numbering between 20 and 25, equipped with sharp weapons went to the fish enclosure and started damaging a dam in it yesterday afternoon, resulting in the clash.

Quium lodged a case against 12 persons with Galachipa Police Station in this connection.

Akhtar Morshed, officer-in-charge of the police station, said, "We are investigating the matter and will take legal steps."
