Defence appeals to meet Kamaruzzaman today
Counsels for war criminal Muhammad Kamaruzzaman sought permission from the prison authorities to meet their client this afternoon to decide their next move following the Supreme Court verdict that upheld his death penalty.
Accepting the application, the jail authorities told the defence lawyers that they will be informed about the authorities' decision later in the day, Shishir Manir, a counsel for Kamaruzzaman, told The Daily Star.
In the application, the defence lawyers mentioned that they want to meet Kamaruzzaman around 4:00pm, Manir said.
While talking to The Daily Star after the verdict, Manir said, "It's not possible to tell anything about presidential mercy petition without any discussion with our client (Kamaruzzaman)."
The Supreme Court today rejected the review petition filed by Kamaruzzaman against its previous verdict that upheld his death penalty.
The execution of today's verdict will not be possible until the copy of the judgement reaches the jail authorities, Manir said.
