Dept will not take responsibility for cops’ personal crimes: IGP

The police department will not take responsibility of any personal crime committed by policemen, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque said today.

Talking to reporters following a programme in Sylhet, the IGP also said the department will be responsible only for the activities someone does as a policeman.

"If any police officer is involved in criminal activity then an investigation will be carried out. Policemen are not above the law. Law will take its own course," he observed.

"If found guilty of any crimes, the policeman concerned will be dismissed from the service," the IGP warned.
