Dinajpur man jailed for child marriage attempt

A mobile court caught a man in Dinajpur’s Kaharol today trying to marry an underage girl.

Md Rubel Islam, 23, son of Md Razu from the upazila, has been jailed for seven days for trying to marry a 10th grader, our local correspondent reports.

Ayub Ali, officer-in-charge of Kaharol Police Station, told The Daily Star that the groom was caught from the house of the bride today, moments before the marriage.

Rubel’s father and the marriage registrar managed to flee. The mobile court of Md Nasim Ahmed caught Rubel and jailed him for seven days, he said.

Rubel was sent to Dinajpur jail for serving time.
