Drug peddler killed in Dinajpur gunfight: Police
A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of drug dealers in Bachaganj upazila of Dinajpur early today, police said.
The deceased -- Ayub Ali (55) -- was accused in 19 cases including drugs, terrorism and human trafficking, filed with Bachaganj Police Station, and a former councillor of Satabganj municipality, said ATM Golam Rasul, officer-in-charge of detective branch (DB) of Dinajpur police.
Hearing the news that two groups of drug dealers were locked in a "gunfight" in Hatrampur-Shalbagan area, police rushed to the spot around 2:00am and fired seven rounds of blank shots to disperse them, said Rasul.
When the criminals fled the scene, police recovered the bullet-hit body of Ayub, 200 pieces of yaba tablets, a pistol, two rounds of bullets, some homemade arms and crude bombs from the spot, he added.
The injured Ayub was taken to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur where doctors declared him dead, said the DB.
He was the son of Abdur Rahman in Rail Colonypara in Bachaganj upazila, added the police official.
DB police suspected that the gunfight ensued over sharing money between the two groups of the drug dealers.
