‘Drug peddler’ killed in Hajaribagh ‘gunfight’
An alleged drug dealer was killed in “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Hajaribagh area of Dhaka early today.
The deceased, Nadim Bahadur, 38, was a listed drug dealer and an accused of nine cases, Rab said in a short message service (SMS).
Deputy Assistant Director of Rab-2 Sajid Mia told the Daily Star that around 4:00 am a Rab-2 team came across two men on a motorbike in front of Hazaribagh’s Sikder Medical College Hospital and signaled them to stop. The riders started firing at the law enforcers, who then retaliated.
One man got shot and other absconded, he said, adding that doctors later declared the injured dead when he was brought to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Rab confirmed the identity of the deceased from a national ID card found with him.
They also seized a motorcycle and recovered one pistol with a few bullets, 35 bottles of phensidyl, and 180 pieces of yaba, Sajid claimed.
The dead body is currently at the morgue of DMCH.
