Drug trader killed in Teknaf gunfight: BGB
An alleged drug-trader was killed in a "gunfight" with members of Border Guard Bangladesh in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf early today.
The deceased is yet to be identified, our local correspondent reports, quoting Lt Col Md Foisal Hasan, commander of BGB Battalion-2.
A team of BGB members was patrolling along Jadimura canal when a gang of drug traders arrived at the coast, the commander said.
The gang tried to flee when BGB signaled them to stop in order to search them. They also opened fire, targeting the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate, Hasan added.
At one point, when the drug traders managed to flee the scene, BGB rescued one of their cohorts, who sustained bullet injuries.
The injured person was taken to Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
Multiple fire arms and 1.5 lakh yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.
Three BGB members were also hurt during the incident, the official said.
