Dhaka University’s proctor is responsible for missing CCTV footage of the attack on Ducsu Vice President Nurul Haque Nur, a leader of Bangladesh Shadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad today alleged.

“The CCTV footage of the incident went missing with the direct instigation and intervention of DU Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani,” said Muhammad Rashed Khan, joint convener of the platform that led quota reform movement.

He came up with the allegation at a press conference held in front of emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

A total of nine CCTV cameras were installed in and around the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) building, he said adding the footage would be recorded at the room of Ducsu Senior Administrative Officer Abul Kalam.

“Two devices -- a CPU and a monitor went missing from the room following the attack. No one can say whereabouts of those devices where CCTV footages were recorded,” he said.

Rashed alleged that he made phone calls to the proctor at least 10 times following the first attack on them carried out by leaders and activists of Chhatra League (BCL) and Muktijuddho Moncho on December 22.

“I requested him several times to come to rescue us from further attack. Despite coming to the spot, the proctor rebuked me for going to Ducsu office,” Rashed claimed.

Later, he rushed to the spot after the second time of attack which means that he did not feel necessity to save us from the attacks, said Rashed.

“It is clear that the proctor was directly involved with the attacks and thus we are demanding his removal,” added Rashed.

The CCTV footages have been missing in a bid to defend DU unit BCL President Sanjit Chandra Das and General Secretary Saddam Hossein who led the attack, Rashed alleged.

He demanded to bring the culprits to book involved with the attack, sought for cancelation of their studentship from the university.

He also urged to the authorities concerned to bear the treatment cost of the injured students.

Contacted, DU Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani said he will place his statement before the committee formed to investigate the attack incident.

On Sunday, activists of a faction of Muktijuddho Moncho, mostly comprised of Chhatra League men, beat up and injured Nur, storming into his office at the Ducsu building.

At least 27 of Nur’s supporters were injured in the attack.
