The Supreme Court today cancelled the High Court order that had granted bail to BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Minar in Feni's Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque murder case.

The court ordered the jail authorities to transfer Minar to Feni jail from Dhaka Central Jail.

The apex court also summoned three doctors of Dhaka Central Jail, who advised the jail authorities to admit Minar to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital from the prison.

The doctors will have to appear before the SC on May 15 to explain as to why punishable action could not be taken against them for giving advice to admit Minar to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital.

The Dhaka jail's doctors cannot recommend admitting an accused to a private hospital like Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the Daily Star.

The doctors could advise the jail authorities to refer Minar to a government hospital like Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as per relevant rules, the AG said.

Eight doctors of the BSMMU have said in a medical report that Mahtab is physically fit to face the trial, the AG said.

After examining the BSMMU report, the three-member bench headed by CJ SK Sinha cancels the bail order for Mahtab.

On March 25, the SC directed the vice chancellor of BSMMU to form a board to examine Minar's health condition. The order came following a petition filed by the government seeking stay on the HC order that granted Minar bail on March 16 for six weeks.

Ekram, 45, also the president of Awami League upazila unit, was shot and burnt to death in his car in Feni town's Academy area on May 20, 2014.
