Ex-ACC director denied bail in graft case
The High Court (HC) today refused to grant bail to suspended director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Khandaker Enamul Basir in a case filed over the transection of the TK 45 lakh as bribe.
The HC bench of Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice ASM Abdul Mobin returned the bail petition of Enamul back to its lawyer.
ACC lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star that Enamul cannot get released from jail following the HC order.
During the hearing, Khurshid Alam told the court that Enamul have damaged the image of the ACC by taking bribe from suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman.
There is nothing more shameful for the ACC, he said.
Enamul’s lawyer Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal told this correspondent that he did not know whether his client would move the bail petition before another HC bench.
On July 16, ACC Director Sheikh Md Fanafillah filed the case against Enamul with the ACC’s Dhaka District Coordination Office-1 under the anti-money laundering act, on charges of taking Tk 40 lakh in bribe from suspended DIG Mizanur Rahman.
