Sahasra Nagorik Committee, a citizen platform, today said that the just concluded Dhaka and Chittagong city corporation polls were held in a free, fair and credible manner.

"The polls were successful, fair and impartial, except some untoward incidents," said the platform which formed in support of Awami League-backed mayoral candidates in the election.

Syed Shamsul Haque, convener of the committee, said BNP has failed to show its political responsibility by boycotting the polls, reports the Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

"BNP's boycotting the polls was unexpected. We don't want elimination of any political party in this way," he added.

He said some untoward incidents took places soon after BNP's announcement to boycott the poll.

BNP is responsible for the untoward incidents during the polls, he alleged.
