Farmers Bank scam: Chisty’s son Rashedul gets bail in 2 cases
Rashedul Haque, son of former chairman of Farmers Bank audit committee Mahabubul Haque Chisty, got bail in two cases filed over the misappropriation of Tk 135 crore after a virtual hearing today.
The court granted Rashedul bail until June 15 this year. He will however remain in jail as he is an accused, along with his father, in connection with a Tk 160-crore money laundering case filed in 2018, for which he was earlier denied bail.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the senior special judge court of Dhaka passed the order after Rashedul's lawyer submitted two separate petitions seeking bail through email.
Mahabubul Haque Chisty was shown arrested on March 8 in connection with five cases filed over amassing more than Tk 135.45crore illegally.
Chisty's son Rashedul was also shown arrested in two of the five cases.
On December 15 last year, the ACC filed five separate cases with its Integrated District Office-1 of Dhaka against Chisty, his wife Ruzy Chisty, son, daughter Rimi Chisty and his son's wife Farhana Ahmed.
Of them, Ruzy and Rimi are now out on bail, while Farhana is still absconding.
