Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad today alleged that the government failed to ensure people's right to live.

"There is no democracy in the country, nor is there good governance of the law," he said at a human chain organised by his party near Jatiya Press Club this morning.

The government should take responsibility of the recent incidents of abuse and killings of children and women in the country, said the former dictator.

"The government has failed to ensure security of women and children in the country. That's why we have come to the streets."

Alleging that there is a culture of impunity in Bangladesh, he said: "Those who commit crimes are going unpunished."
