Graft case against ex-DIG Partha: HC wants to know probe update
The High Court (HC) today wanted to know the latest update of investigation of the corruption case filed against suspended Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) Partha Gopal Banik.
The court asked the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to provide the information to this court by January 30.
The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice AKM Zahirul Huq passed the order during hearing a bail petition of Partha Gopal in this case.
The HC bench also fixed February 2 for further hearing on the bail petition.
Barrister Shafique Ahmed and Advocate Qamrul Islam appeared for the Partha Gopal while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC.
On July 29, a Dhaka court sent Partha Gopal Banik, deputy inspector general (prisons) of Sylhet division, to jail after rejecting his bail petition in connection with a case filed over recovery of Tk 80 lakh from his Dhanmondi residence.
The ACC detained the DIG from his residence in Dhaka on July 28 for allegedly obtained the money through corruption.
A team of the anti-corruption watchdog recovered the cash from Partha’s house in Dhanmondi.
